THINK DIFFERENT (by APJ ABDUL KALAM)

Think diffrent

I WOULD LIKE TO NARRATE AN EVENT THAT TOOK place in the Rashtrapati Bhavan some years back when i met Bill Gates, the CEO of Microsoft. While taking a walk in the Mughal garden, we were discussing the future challenges in information Technology, including the issues related to software security. I made a point that we look for open source codes so that we can easily introduce the user built security alogrithms. Our discussions  became difficult since our views were diffrent. The most unfortunate things is that india still seems to believe in proprietary solutions. The further spread os IT  which is influencing the daily life of individuals would have a devastating effect on the lives of society dur to any small shift in the business practice involving these proprietary solutions. It is precisely for these reasons that an open-source software needs to be built, which would be cost-effective for the entire society. In India, the open sourse code software will have to come and stay in a big way for the benefit of our billion people. IT has to play a major role in this national mission.

Value Addition

Technology and value addition are prime importance for proseperity of a nation. Value addition in
a product per employee today in india is far behind in the comparison with other countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Korea. We have to work hard in Value addition techniques in our manufacturing industries, service industry and agriculture sectors. Skilled manpower and capital equipment also need up gradation. Sometime back i came to know that india export 30 million tonnes of iron ore every year from four of its ports. We should remember That iron ore is not a renewable resource. The steel industry needed is the Industry with the imagination of its people and skills With the addition of new innovative technologies and the unique management style is should increase the iron content percentage of our ore with appropriate technologies, convert them as steel products, and also desings and produce globally comptitive new alloy steels. This is the need of the hour. A movement, a methodology for value addition has to be given thrust since it is the main component of the second vision for the nation-Developed india.

Prosperous, happy and peaceful India

A nation's strength predominantly resides in its natural and human resources As regards natural resources. As regards natural resources, India is endowed with a vast coastline with marine resources and also oil wealth. In minerals a part from the conventional material resources, India has the largest deposits of the titanium, beryllium and tungsten. India ranks among the top few nations having a rich bio-diversity. Knowledge-based value addition for these natural resources would mean exporting value-added product rather than merely the raw materials. The use of IT for commercialisation and marketing can increase our reach and speed enormously. Our ancient knowledge is a unique resource of india. It has the treasure of a minimum of 5000 years of civilisation. It is essential to leverage this wealth for national well-being as well as to seek a global presence for the nation. A civilisation that does not have the knowledge of technological nations without experience of civilization cannot innovate newer economy. Human resources, particularly with a large young population, are unique core strength of the nation. This resource can be transformed through various educational and training programmes. Skilled, unskilled, and creative manpower can be transformed into wealth generation, particulary in the service sectors and, agro industries. Knowledge-intensive industries can be generated out of our existing industries by injecting demend for high-level software/hardware, which would bring tremendous
value addition. It is said, ''precious asset for a company or a country is the skill, ingenuity and imagination of its people.'' With globalisation, this will become more important because everyboday will have access to world class technology and the key distinguishing feature will be the ability of people in different countries to use their imagination to make the best use of the technology.'' Indeed, development and innovative use of multiple technologies with mission projects and transparent management structure will catapult india into a 'developed'.

Inspiring the great mission

What do we need to build developed india? We have resources and we have human power. There are 700 million people below 35 years in the population of billion people. The nation needs young leaders who can command the transformation of India into a developed nation embedded with knowledge society in the next twenty years.

  • TECHNOLOGY AND VALUE ADDITION IS ONE OF THE PRIME MOVERS OF A COUNTRY'S ECONOMY.
  • A PRECIOUS ASSET FOR A COMPANY AND COUNTRY IS THE SKILL AND INGENUITY OF ITS PEOPLE AND ABOVE ALL INNOVATION.
